Phil Collins discovered his gated reverb drum sound while playing a cymbal-less drum kit on Peter Gabriel’s third self-titled album. That drum sound went on to define so many of his future hits, including the massive solo in “In The Air Tonight, which was later performed in a gorilla suit on the Cadbury commercial.
