About the Album

Elliott Smith never much cared for attention. His engineer Larry Crane once recalled, “He told me once, ‘I want to write songs, I want to record. The interviews and the tours are things I have to do in order to do the first two.’”

In October 2018, it will be 15 years since Elliott Smith’s death. We honor his legacy on September 22nd at The Earl by recreating his third album Either/Or in its entirety. Elliott Smith got the name “Either/Or” from the title of a book by the Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard. Like Smith, Kierkegaard often wrote about existential despair. Join us as we begin Fall with a celebration of the tragic beauty and dark glory of Smith’s songs and life.
